“Senior” White House “Adviser” Jared Kushner has chosen to drop his current lawyer from defending him from Mueller’s probe into the “alleged” collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Jamie Gorelick, Kushner’s now former lawyer, issued a statement via email, explaining why Kushner had dropped her. She was originally retained by Kushner to represent him on ethics issues and all his lies on his mandatory disclosure forms.
Kushner will now be represented on all Russia matters by Abbe Lowell, a prominent Washington criminal defense attorney. Gorelick said that, “Once Bob Mueller and three of our partners left the firm to form the Special Counsel’s Office, we advised Mr. Kushner to get independent legal advice whether to continue with us as counsel,” Gorelick said, “As [a] result of this process, Abbe is now responsible for the Russia-related inquiries.”
Since it is clear that Kushner partially chose to drop Gorelick because Mueller used to work for her firm, it’s obvious that Kushner feels there is a good chance that Mueller will bring criminal charges against him. Gorelick made it clear in her email that Kushner decided to remove her as his representation, because retaining her would result in an obvious conflict of interest, if Mueller’s probe brings charges. The conflict would clearly be that Gorelick used to be Mueller’s boss.
Even beyond the conflict of interest, new counsel Abbe Lowell, specializes in criminal defense. Gorelick is more known for regulatory and enforcement arenas, involving issues such as antitrust, environmental regulation, securities enforcement, national security regulation. She is still plenty good enough of an attorney to represent Kushner, so the fact that he is making this switch, indicates he believes there is a very real possibility that criminal charges will be brought against him. He needs the best of the best when it comes to his criminal defense, because Mueller’s team is the best of the best when it comes to putting criminals behind bars.
