Two huge pieces of news about special counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing Russia investigation have dropped today, revealing that not only is President Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort heavily under fire for his “alleged” illegal activity, but that he also seems to be cooperating with Mueller.
Muller and his investigative team have used their Washington area grand jury to issue subpoenas in the past few weeks, for bank records from Paul Manafort, in regards to his global bank accounts. The subpoenas also reportedly sought information related to some of Manafort’s companies, as well as his other business associates, including Manafort’s son-in-law and a Ukrainian oligarch, who have both been contacted by Mueller’s team, in an attempt to pressure Manafort into cooperating with them.
This report was provided by, “sources familiar with the matter.” But the best part about this report, is that it has revealed that Manafort himself told Mueller’s team about Trump Jr’s 2016 meeting with the Russians at Trump Tower! This is a shocking development and true betrayal of Trump by Manafort.
“In fact, Manafort had alerted authorities to a controversial meeting on June 9, 2016, involving Trump’s son Donald Jr., other campaign representatives and a Russian lawyer promising damaging information on Hillary Clinton, according to people familiar with the matter. The president and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, were dragged into the matter as details repeatedly emerged that contradicted the initial accounts of that meeting.”
Keep in mind, that the New York Times only learned about the meeting by “people familiar” with it, from “confidential government records described to The New York Times.” These documents are clearly records from Mueller’s investigation, and possibly interviews with Manafort himself, in which Manafort snitched and revealed Trump Jr’s meeting with the Russians. The Time’s own report on the meeting seems to hint that it was Manafort as well.
“The previously unreported meeting was also attended by Mr. Trump’s campaign chairman at the time, Paul J. Manafort, as well as the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, according to interviews and the documents, which were outlined by people familiar with them.” said the Time’s in their initial report on Jr’s meeting.
A spokesperson for Manafort confirmed that he is continuing to work with law enforcement. “Mr. Manafort has consistently cooperated with law enforcement and other serious inquiries.” the spokesperson said in a statement yesterday.
It makes you wonder all the stuff going on that we still do not know about. The raid on Manafort’s home, and these grand jury subpoenas, all happened in “recent weeks”, so who knows what they are up to right now!
