President Trump woke up this Friday morning and issued new threats of military conflict with North Korea. His threats are based off a vague idea of North Korea doing something “unwise”, which he did not specify. It seems that Trump is drawing vague “red lines” so that he can have more of an excuse to go to war with North Korea, which he clearly wants.
“Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely. Hopefully Kim Jong-un will find another path!” Trump posted. He also reposted an announcement from U.S. Pacific Command stating that, “#USAF B-1B Lancer #bombers on Guam stand ready to fulfill USFK’s #FightTonight mission if called upon to do so.”
This statement most likely was not coordinated with South Korea and Japan, who really have the most to lose here. Hopefully these statements will be walked back by Mattis, Kelly, McMaster, or Tillerson at some point today, so we know that sanity is still in control.
Guam’s homeland security agency issued a fact sheet today with tips for residents to prepare for any missile threat. “Do not look at the flash or fireball – it can blind you. Lie flat on the ground and cover your head. If the explosion is some distance away, it could take 30 seconds or more for the blast wave to hit.”
