President Trump is now complaining that he should not have helped out the three American UCLA basketball players that were jailed and then released in China, because of comments made by one of their parents. This is despite the fact that all three players did publicly thank Trump during a press conference.
“Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal,” Trump posted, “I should have left them in jail!”
LaVar Ball, father of one of the three freed players, told ESPN that Trump had little to do with the player’s release. “What was he over there for? Don’t tell me nothing. Everybody wants to make it seem like he helped me out. A lot of people like to say a lot of things that they thought happened over there. Like I told him, ‘They try to make a big deal out of nothing sometimes’.” Ball said.
You could certainly argue that LaVar Ball’s comments weren’t a good idea, since Trump saved his son from long term imprisonment, but why should a son be punished for the statements of his father? So what if the father made stupid comments, the son thanked Trump and that’s all that should really matter to Trump. The fact that Trump would be willing to throw a young man back in jail over such petty comments is true insanity.
