Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said that President Trump “ordered” him to perform a duet with a singer at a gala for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit on Sunday in the Philippines. Just this week, Duterte bragged about how he murdered a man with his own hands. This is also the same leader that in the past referred to former President Barack Obama as a “son of a wh*re.”
Duterte’s “performance” and claim that he performed the song “upon the orders of the Commander-in-Chief of the United States,” were caught on camera, including President Trump laughing and smiling about it.
You can clearly hear Duterte say he sang on the “orders” of President Trump in the footage of him singing below. He makes the comment around 2:20, followed by Trump’s reaction.
Duterte must have been joking, but the fact is that Trump is palling around and having an intimate relationship with a leader who has started a drug war that has resulted in the deaths of at least 3,000 people in the Philippines, possibly as many as 9,000 people. Duterte has essentially suspended due process in the country and is letting police take justice into their own hands.
Trump praised Duterte in the Philippines, saying they have “a great relationship.” “We very much appreciate the great treatment you’ve given us. I thought last night’s event was fantastic,” Trump said today, “Tremendous talent — most of it, I guess, from the Philippines. But tremendous talent — musical talent, dance talent. And we really had a tremendous time, all of the leaders.”
