One can only imagine the stress 800,000 DACA recipients are feeling right now as President Trump uses them as a political pawn to get an exuberant sum of money for his pointless border wall at the Mexican border.
During the three-day government shutdown, Trump demanded $20 billion in border wall funding. After Democrats wouldn’t hand over the money, he accused them of being “complicit in all murders” committed by illegal immigrants in a campaign ad.
Now, Trump just raised the bar for his demand. Trump’s budget director Mick Mulvaney told CNN’s Chris Cuomo that the future of DREAMers “depends on what we get in exchange.” Mulvaney then asked, “What do we get for border security? What do we get for a wall?”
Well, the answer is $30 billion. If Democrats want to help 800,000 people, they have to fork over $30 billion. Trump attempted to downplay the severity of the situation by telling reporters – concerning DACA – that “we’re going to morph into it.” He added, “It’s going to happen, at some point in the future, over a period of 10 to 12 years.”
The glaring problem with his statement is that the deportations of DREAMers are set to begin in March of this year, not in “10 to 12 years.”
