By now you have probably heard that President Trump took Russian President Vladimir Putin’s side today over the issue of Russian penetration in the 2016 presidential election. Well, it gets worse, as the pair have released a joint statement together today after meeting on the sidelines of a regional economic summit in Vietnam Saturday.
“President Trump and President Putin today, meeting on the margins of the APEC conference in Da Nang, Vietnam, confirmed their determination to defeat ISIS in Syria,” the statement reads, also stating that Trump felt he had a “good meeting with President Putin.”
In addition, Putin is claiming that the allegations of collusion between the Russians and the Trump campaign are a fabrication designed solely to attack President Trump. Putin called the claims of collusion and election meddling by the Russians both “absurd.”
Meanwhile, the U.S. intelligence agency remains resolute in their assertion that it was indeed the Russians that ran an influence campaign aimed at helping President Trump win the White House in 2016. CIA Director Mike Pompeo and the CIA issued the following statement today in response to Putin’s claims; “The director stands by and has always stood by the January 2017 intelligence community assessment entitled: ‘Assessing Russian Activities and Intentions in Recent U.S. Elections.’ The intelligence assessment with regard to Russian election meddling has not changed,” said a spokesperson for the CIA.
President Trump commented on Putin’s denials today and essentially took a clear enemy of the United States at their word. “He said he didn’t meddle,” said Trump on Air Force One, “I asked him again. You can only ask so many times… He said he absolutely did not meddle in our election. He did not do what they are saying he did.” The president of the United States is issuing joint statements and siding with Russia over America. In all seriousness, WTF is going folks!?
