Angela Merkel Responds After Trump Claims Germany ‘controlled by Russia’ At NATO Summit

German Chancellor Angela Merkel issued a brilliant response to Donald Trump’s crazy claim this morning that Germany is controlled by Russia, which is one one of the most ironic claims of the year seeing as that he’s under investigation for collusion with Russia.

“I’ve experienced myself a part of Germany controlled by the Soviet Union, and I’m very happy today that we are united in freedom as the Federal Republic of Germany and can thus say that we can determine our own policies and make our own decisions and that’s very good.” Merkel said today, which you can see with subtitles in the footage below.

Merkel’s statements are in response to earlier attacks at the beginning of the NATO summit from Trump, who said that Germany was “totally controlled” by and “captive to” Russia. Merkel also defended Germany’s contributions to NATO defense, “Germany is one of the biggest troop contributors to NATO missions, was free of Russian control since the fall of the Berlin Wall.”

Disturbing enough is that Trump plans on repeating his attacks right in Merkel’s face later today when they are forced to meet at the summit, “White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders just confirmed that President Trump will reiterate his ‘Germany is totally controlled by Russia’ comments when meets with Chancellor Merkel later today.”

This NATO summit is off to a dangerously bad start and it feels like something awful is going to happen as a result of Trump’s clear desire to ruin our relationships with our European allies. All of this is destablizing the Euro zone which only benefits Russia.
