Feinstein, Harris, & Pelosi Respond To Trump Ending FEMA Aid For California Wildfires

Democratic Senators from California, Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, as well as House Majority Speaker Nancy Pelosi, were all forced to speak out against Donald Trump today after he issued a reprehensible order this morning to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to stop sending money for recovery and rebuilding California after the devastating wildfires last year.

“The Camp Fire killed 86 people, destroyed 14,000 homes & burned 150,000 acres. It’s absolutely shocking for President Trump to suggest he would deny disaster assistance to the victims. This empty threat is based on groundless complaints, and candidly isn’t worth the time of day,” Dianne Feinstein said, pointing out the terrible damage that Trump is ignoring with this order.

It is interesting that Feinstein does not even believe that Trump will carry through with his inhuman order as she called it an “empty threat.” Kamala Harris, also from California, responded by saying, “Californians endured the deadliest wildfire in our state’s history last year. We should work together to mitigate these fires by combating climate change, not play politics by threatening to withhold money from survivors of a deadly natural disaster.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s response focused on condemning Trump, “[email protected]’s threat insults the memory of scores of Americans who perished in wildfires last year & thousands more who lost their homes. @GOPLeader must join me to condemn & call on POTUS to reassure millions in CA that our govt will be there for them in their time of need.”

Trump surely did not realize how foolish it was to issue this inhumane order to FEMA. How ignorant is it to threaten to withhold money from the largest payer into the federal tax system? California pays the most federal tax in the nation and has many options it can use to respond to Trump holding funding hostage from the state over this critical issue.
