Donald Trump and The White House Monday disinvited the Philadelphia Eagles from enjoying a traditional post championship visit to Washington. Trump and Fox News literally claimed that the NFL team’s visit was cancelled because the players are “disrespectful to our country” for kneeling during the national anthem, but the truth is much different.
The truth is that no player on the Philadelphia Eagles took a knee during the national anthem during the 2017 regular season, post season or Super Bowl last season. But that did not stop Fox News from going out of their way to present misleading images of the team’s players to make up lies.
Fox News ran the footage below, where it tried to pass off images of the team’s players kneeling in prayer, as images of them kneeling during the anthem. The players never knelt during the anthem.

Trump must have watched this exact segment, because Tuesday morning he said, “The Philadelphia Eagles Football Team was invited to the White House. Staying in the Locker Room for the playing of our National Anthem is as disrespectful to our country as kneeling. Sorry!”
The Philadelphia Eagles Football Team was invited to the White House. Unfortunately, only a small number of players decided to come, and we canceled the event. Staying in the Locker Room for the playing of our National Anthem is as disrespectful to our country as kneeling. Sorry!

Trump’s statement is obviously a complete lie. The real reason Trump cancelled the event is because essentially no one from the team wanted anything to do from him and he couldn’t handle the embarrassment. He decided instead to make it all about kneeling, when the truth is that one of America;s past times hates him.
Philadelphia’s Mayor Jim Kenney responded to Trump’s move by speaking the truth and warned that Trump is “a scary guy,” because “he has his hands on the nuclear codes,” and that “Hopefully by the time he’s gone, we can recover from this mess, but this is a bad time in our country.”
