Democrat Representative Ilhan Omar has faced a lot of hate from the Right since she was elected, for fairly obvious reasons. One of their favorite things is to claim that she is not really an American and only cares about foreign interests, but Omar set the record straight on CNN’s “The Van Jones Show” late last night.
Omar simply made the argument that Donald Trump admitting that he would take damaging information on a political opponent from any foreign power was “one of the most un-American” things a person could say. She even tried to wake us up to how dangerous this is and why it is cause for impeaching Trump.
“He’s so bold in the most lawlessness thoughts that go through his head,” Omar said. “I think for so long, we’ve just said, that’s kind of what Trump does. It’s time to take him serious and it’s time for us to make this a constitutional matter and protect our nation.”
Trump said in an ABC interview last week that he’d be open to listening to a foreign government that had damaging information on a political opponent. “I think you might want to listen. There’s nothing wrong with listening,” he said. “It’s not an interference. They have information. I think I’d take it. If I thought there was something wrong, I’d go maybe to the FBI.”
Omar recognizes that Trump is signaling here that he will accept damaging information during the 2020 campaign from any foreign power. He is open to offers and will do anything he can to try and remain in the White House because he knows that once he is out, he is facing indictments for obstruction, at minimum.
Omar had a tough life growing up as a refugee and she knows all about discrimination. She simply wants to look out for the underdog and she has been effective at doing so, which is why she is attacked so often. She tried to explain this in the interview, as you can see in the footage below.
“We are both victims of the kind of discrimination that's going on…Do you want to keep that going, you want to perpetuate that? No.”@RepSchakowsky discusses an op-ed she and Rep. @Ilhan Omar wrote on combating white nationalism. Watch more with @VanJones68 at 7 p.m. ET on CNN pic.twitter.com/q76DZBDadp
