Tension Thick At Bush’s Funeral As Trump Refuses To Rise Above Politics & Ignores Clintons

The nation bid farewell to former President George H.W. Bush on Wednesday with his state funeral service at the Washington National Cathedral. The service brought former President Barack Obama, former First Lady Michelle Obama, former President Bill Clinton, and former First Lady Hillary Clinton, into contact with Donald Trump again, for the first time since Trump’s inauguration nearly two years ago on January 20th 2017.

Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump were seated in the front pew and an awkward encounter took place as they arrived at the Cathedral. The Obamas and Clintons were engaged in light hearted conversation before the Trumps arrived, but after the Trumps arrived, the tension between the couples was as high as could be, as seen in the before and after photo below.

Melania Trump sat next to Barack Obama and greeted both the Obamas and the Clintons. Melania shook both the Obama’s hands as well as Bill Clinton’s, she could not reach far enough over to shake Hillary’s hand. Donald Trump shook hands with Michelle and Barack Obama, but Donald completely ignored the Clintons. Bill Clinton looked over at Donald Trump with a smile, but Trump ignored him completely. If you missed the exchange, you can see it in the footage below.

Hillary Clinton ignored Donald Trump too, but she probably would have greeted him if he had not left Bill Clinton hanging. The fact that Bill looked over at Donald with a smile, proves that he was willing to put politics aside and at least greet Donald. It’s strange that Melania would greet the Clintons but not Donald.

Trump also couldn’t sit still and kept fumbling with his hands in the minutes after he arrived, so he was obvious uncomfortable. Former President George W Bush did it the right way and greeted all former Presidents and First ladies in attendance.
