Trump Makes Legal Move That Shows He Expects To Be Impeached Soon

As special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation gains steam, Trump senses that things are not going in his favor, and has moved to seek the legal assistance from a lawyer who is an expert on impeachment; Emmet T. Flood

Emmet T. Flood is the veteran attorney who represented former President Bill Clinton during his impeachment trial in 1998. A number of sources have confirmed that an interview between Trump and Flood took place in the Oval Office, during which the two discussed the possibility of Flood joining Trump’s legal team to help deal with Mueller’s inquiry.

Trump’s legal move here is undoubtedly fueled by fears that he will be impeached next year if Democrats retake the House in November. Trump is beginning to not trust his legal team to help him get through impeachment, as they have proven to be fairly useless. Last summer for example, Trump’s attorneys reassured him that Mueller’s probe would wrap up by Thanksgiving and we know how that prediction turned out.

Today, Trump attacked Times reporter Maggie Haberman, claiming that he is perfectly happy with his current lawyers. “The Failing New York Times purposely wrote a false story stating that I am unhappy with my legal team on the Russia case and am going to add another lawyer to help out. Wrong. I am VERY happy with my lawyers, John Dowd, Ty Cobb and Jay Sekulow. They are doing a great job.”

This is despite, as reporter Kyle Griffin pointed out, “Trump has given Oval Office interviews to Maggie Haberman. She breaks more stories about the administration than probably any other W.H reporter. The idea that she’s not given access is laughable.”

Most importantly though is that Trump did not say anything about the key portion of Haberman’s report—that he invited Clinton impeachment attorney Flood to the White House to seek a legal strategy to defend against potential impeachment proceedings. Instead, he attacked Haberman, who has interviewed him multiple times, as “a Hillary flunky” who “knows nothing about me and is not given access.”

The fact that he did not deny meeting with Flood, tells you all you need to know. Trump is planning on being impeached and is taking steps to protect himself. This is historic. This is not normal.
